Multi-agency risk assessment conferences (MARAC)
A multi-agency risk assessment conference is a meeting to discuss the safety and wellbeing of people experiencing domestic abuse. It includes representatives from the police, probation, health, child protection and other specialists.
The focus of the MARAC is the safety of the victim.
The MARAC:
- shares information
- discusses options
- makes an action plan to increase their safety
How to make a MARAC referral
Professionals make a referral to the local authority where the victim lives.
For an East Sussex MARAC, the person needs to live in East Sussex.

If the victim is unaware of referral to MARAC
An agency may refer a victim to a MARAC without their knowledge.
Practitioners must assess whether it is proportionate and justified to share information. This will depend on the level of risk that the victim is facing.
